“Nathan Parker visited our school to work with some of our most under performing pupils, in terms of their attainment in narrative writing. From the first word he said, he had them hooked.
He encouraged all of the pupils (mainly boys) to make links to their own lives when thinking of setting and characters and modeled how he had done this effectively in his own published book by sharing with them some gripping extracts.
This simple, yet clever approach meant that some of the pupils produced some of the most authentic narrative writing I have ever read from them. Whilst they were writing, he also circulated the room giving every pupil some personalised advice and feedback which they they acted on to make improvements to their work.
Nathan is incredibly relatable; he is open, honest and has a brilliant manner with the the pupils. For these reasons, our youngsters wanted to impress him, with some of them even choosing to come back at lunch time to carry on working with him!

“Nathan was really well received by our pupils thanks to his warm and personable manner. Our students were able to see that writers are not these magical beings but that actually they could be a writer too. His talk was engaging and allowed the students to really explore Nathan’s motivations and writing process. In his workshop Nathan made our students feel safe enough to share some really personal stories and experiences which could all be used in their own writing, which allowed some students who are more reluctant, to write a way in.
